{"id":423,"date":"2026-05-27T17:50:41","date_gmt":"2026-05-27T17:50:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/remar.mx\/en\/?p=423"},"modified":"2026-05-27T18:00:12","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T18:00:12","slug":"mexico-remains-the-united-states-main-trading-partner-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/remar.mx\/en\/blog\/mexico-remains-the-united-states-main-trading-partner-in-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Mexico remains the United States\u2019 main trading partner in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">January 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mexico began 2026 as the United States\u2019 main trading partner, reaching unprecedented figures for a similar month, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In numbers, bilateral trade totaled <strong>USD 74.1 billion<\/strong>, representing a <strong>6.5% nominal annual increase<\/strong> compared to the USD 69.6 billion reported in January of the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding U.S. imports from Mexico, they reached a total of <strong>USD 42.5 billion<\/strong>, increasing by <strong>2.01% annually<\/strong> and representing <strong>16.32% of total U.S. imports<\/strong>, 3.2 percentage points above the 13.1% recorded in January 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Mexico\u2019s imports from the United States totaled <strong>USD 31.5 billion<\/strong>, representing a <strong>13.09% nominal annual increase<\/strong> and accounting for <strong>16.9% of total U.S. exports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result, trade between the U.S. and Mexico, measured as the sum of bilateral commercial operations, represented <strong>16.6% of total U.S. trade<\/strong>, ranking first, followed by Canada with 11.8% and China with 6.6%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">February 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During this month, Mexico consolidated its position as the United States\u2019 main trading partner, reaching <strong>USD 44.3 billion in exports<\/strong> in February, equivalent to <strong>17.5% of total U.S. imports<\/strong>. This represented a significant increase compared to 14.4% in February 2025 and above the 16.3% reported in January of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Mexican exports to the United States grew <strong>6.4% year-over-year<\/strong>, as well as <strong>4.2% compared to January<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding the rest of the United States\u2019 trading partners, Canada ranked second with an 11.5% share, followed by Taiwan with 8.3%, while China dropped to fourth place with 7.5%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">March 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the third month of 2026, Mexico remained the largest supplier of goods to the U.S. market, with exports totaling <strong>USD 51.2 billion<\/strong>, the highest monthly level ever recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This amount represented <strong>16.9% of total U.S. imports<\/strong>, with an annual growth of <strong>6.7%<\/strong> and a monthly increase of <strong>15.5% compared to February<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding U.S. imports, Canada ranked second with 11.3%, followed by Taiwan with 8.1%, while China remained in fourth place with only 6.9%, confirming the structural shift in global sourcing patterns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All these first-quarter figures resulted in a cumulative total of <strong>USD 138 billion in Mexican exports to the United States<\/strong>, representing an annual growth of <strong>5.1%<\/strong> and also a historic high for the period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sustained growth in trade between Mexico and the United States confirms the country\u2019s strategic importance within global supply chains.
